Watch the Joint Session Tomorrow on Facebook Live

first_img  SHARE  TWEET September 27, 2016 By: Governor Tom Wolf Substance Use Disorder,  The Blog,  Videos Like Governor Tom Wolf on Facebook: Facebook.com/GovernorWolfcenter_img Watch the Joint Session Tomorrow on Facebook Live Tomorrow, I will address the House and the Senate in a joint session about taking quick action to combat the opioid and heroin crisis. With 10 people a day dying from drug overdoses in our commonwealth, we cannot afford to stall.Through legislation, we should require prescribers to check the Prescription Drug Monitoring Database every time they prescribe opioids and limit the opioid quantities that emergency rooms patients can be prescribed at one time.We also need laws that require medical professionals to receive updated education about opioids and pain management and should require public school students to be taught about opioid misuse.Legislation is needed to require insurance carriers to make abuse deterrent opioids more affordable and to establish a voluntary directive for patients who don’t want to be prescribed opioids. After consultation with legislative leaders, I believe we can make a profound impact by working together this fall to combat the opioid and heroin epidemic in our commonwealth.I hope you can watch my address to the House and Senate tomorrow at 11:30 AM on Facebook Live for more information. Thank you. SHARE Email Facebook Twitterlast_img read more

Sumner County Emergency Management warns of upcoming storm

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — James Fair, Director at Sumner County Emergency Management, has issued a warning by the National Weather Service in Wichita that a storm watch has been issued for Sumner County as well as the rest of the state. The NWS states:“The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH that includes Sumner County…which is in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon. Please check back as forecast models develop with more accurate information.”Possible storm coming to Sumner County? Those planning travel Wednesday through Thursday should check weather and road conditions before venturingout during that time frame. A strong storm system will eject out of the Southwest across the Central Plains from Wednesday into Thursday…spreading a wintry mix of precipitation across the forecast area. Precipitation will be heaviest from Wednesday night through Thursday morning. The most significant snowaccumulations are projected across the northern half of Kansas…with sleet and freezing rain the primary concernacross the southern half of Kansas. Snow, sleet and ice accumulations could be significant across the region. There remains some uncertaintyon exactly where the rain/snow/sleet/freezing rain lines will set up. These transition zones will likely be fairly narrow…so any minor shifts in the approaching system will create very different precipitation-type outcomes. Close Forgot password?
