first_imgGladys DowersGladys Dowers, 98, of Oxford, died, January 30, 2013, at the Riverview Manor in Oxford.Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Oxford. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6 p.m.A memorial has been established with the Oxford First Baptist Church or the Riverview Manor of Oxford.  Contributions can be left with the Oxford Funeral Home. She was united in marriage with William “Bill” Dowers on May 18, 1935.  Gladys was an active member of the Oxford Baptist Church.She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and taught the 3 to 5 year olds for many years. Gladys was an excellent cook and rarely needed a recipe book. She enjoyed fishing and travel with her family all over the United States. Gladys will be remembered for her love for her family.Surviving to honor her memory is her son Michael Dowers and wife Jane of Oxford and special son Rod Dowers of Oxford, brother Jimmy Standerfer of Olathe, CA, sister, Glenda Casey of Clayton, N.C., grandchildren; Sandy Osburn and husband Grady of Oxford and Lee Dowers and wife Cindy of Olathe, KS, great grandchildren; Brad Klein and wife Britta of Wichita, Becky Klein of Kansas City, KS, Kelsey and Kourtney Dowers of Olathe, KS and Aryana Osburn of Oxford, KS, great Great grandchildren Hunter, Lila, Kale and Jace.Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and sister Mignon Hartley and brothers, W.A.
