May 07, 2018 SHARE Email Facebook Twitter Governor Wolf Appoints Dr. Janet Haas as Honorary Chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission Education, Press Release, Schools That Teach Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf today appointed Dr. Janet Haas, M.D. as Honorary Chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment Commission. Dr. Haas is also the chairwoman and a past president of the William Penn Foundation.“As a medical doctor, Janet Haas is dedicated to improving the lives of young children across the commonwealth,” said Governor Wolf. “The commission will benefit from her tremendous experience working with business leaders as we work to build bipartisan support for increasing our commitment to early learning.”Dr. Haas practices palliative medicine at the Abramson Cancer Center of Pennsylvania Hospital, part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. She is board-certified in Rehabilitation Medicine and has cared for brain-injured patients at Temple University and Moss Rehabilitation Hospital.Investing in early education is a priority for Governor Wolf. In the 2018-19 budget, the governor is proposing to invest an additional $25 million in state funding, to be matched by $5 million in federal funding, to expand access to high-quality child care, as well as an increase of $40 million for high-quality early childhood education which would allow nearly 4,400 children to enroll in a program.Together with $90 million in funding increases secured over the past three years, this additional investment will more than double the funding for Pre-K Counts programs since 2014-15, and increases funding for Head Start Supplemental Assistance by 64 percent.“There is nothing more important than high-quality education.
